Street art is not just about placing art into the street → it’s about creating a limitless space to create response and reaction While it is a global phenomenon, there is often a local twist Stencilling = a simple street art that anyone can really do

Objects: o Objects are another method of street art e.g. the crate man o Sometimes the simplicity of street art is part of its sophistication. They show people that they too can create art and create the question – why aren’t they creating art? o Example: Inflatable street art → look like trash in the street and then the air inflates them into an animated creature, inflating and deflating. Popularisation: o Street art has become very popular in the past number of years e.g. David Cameron gifting the Obamas a piece of street art in 2010 o Is street art still street art when it is commissioned, not anonymous and supersized?

Early street art = paintings, stencils etc The digital world has changed this Example: The Gold car in Fitzroy → public space is dominated by car culture. However this notion is becoming contested. We are at the end of the road of the car as we understand it and the gold car shows us this. Speaks to the idea of how public space is being perceived. Street artists are trying to push the boundaries of how art is presented and displayed Today, often street art is not always about the physical experience but about the reproduction of it digitally → often for Instagram & social media Digital spaces are now the primary mode for many street artists...
