FHCE 4051 Professor Peng 7 September 2020 Heroin(e) Summary The documentary takes place in Huntington, West Virginia, the overdose capital of America where the overdose death rate is 10 times that of the national average. This story follows Jan Rader, Necia Freeman, and Judge Patricia Keller. Jan Rader is an old medic, nurse, and fire-fighter who helps revive and save addicts who have suffered overdoses, and she was named the first female fire chief in West Virginia’s history. Necia Freeman runs the Paper Bag Ministry where she gives food and hygiene supplies to women plagued by prositution and using drugs. Judge Patricia Keller runs West Virginia’s drug court where she helps addicts through a program designed to get them off of drugs and live a successful life. The opioid public health epidemic is a continuous problem in West Virginia, but because of the perseverance and hard work of these three women, more and more lives are saved and are changed every day. - Empathy aspect - People continuing to go along w/ their daily lives shows issue...
