Tiara Berden Ms. Mervoisky AP English Literature 1 October 2013 How To Eat A Poem Analyst In this poem, How To Eat A Poem, by Eve Merriam, it is describing how a person should never just use what they see other people do in their poems but yet how a person should use their own meaning to things in a personal touch. Don’t hold back from writing a poem, for it could be the best thing that someone has written. Understanding the poem and how Merriam has written it, it gives the reader an understanding about how they should be able to just express themselves no matter what and that the poem is their canvas to their printed ideas. A poem contains, “...no core, or stem, or rind, or pit, or see, or skin to throw away” so that a person is able to consume everything that is written down and able to portray it properly out of their own works. During this poem a conclusion that everything is free to a person when creating a poem. Meaning, an individual is able to draw, conclude, and create whatever it is that is on their mind to make their poem how it is. They can have it either way they want it to be no matter what the cause. The use of describing a poem to an apple is a great keypoint in the poem How To Eat A Poem, and it give a visual image to the reader. So when creating a poem, there is no limits, no boundaries, and no leftovers.
