Description

3-3 Short Answer: Human Culture and Expression Over Time

Prompt: In the resources for this module, there are three sets of movie trailers. Review one set of the videos and respond to the following questions in a total of one to two paragraphs.   

How do you think the new and old versions represent different aspects of their societies/times? What are the similarities and differences? How does each version reflect the culture and time period in which it exists? After considering the examples presented, think about the artifact that you chose for Project 1. Pose one question regarding the relationship between human culture and expression in relation to your artifact. Explain one approach you may take to find the response to the question posed.

I chose to view Pride and Prejudice vs. Bridget Jones’s Diary trailers. There are many differences as well as similarities in the three different trailers. All three of these movies focus on the main idea of finding true love and bring truly happy. In the 1995 Pride and Prejudice I think the story follows the idealization of arranged marriage. In the 2005 Pride and Prejudice I think it focuses on the money aspect of marriage and how it relates to happiness. Bridget Jones’ Diary is the complete opposite from the two movies. Bridget focuses more on bettering herself before seeking a better half. In the older movies marrying to be happy and to be loved was not the reason for marriage. Arranged marriages were more for families advancing in their social status. in Bridget Jones’s Diary she steps back and understands marriage a different way, she focused more on love and personality. These movies show how different time periods have changed how we view morals and marriage. The artifact I chose is the painting by Ranjith Kk. A question I have is how can we expect others to help us when we are afraid to express our pain? In what way does losing a child deepen a relationship with God? Does the father feel the same hurt as the mother? The only way I know how to answer these questions is to ask those who have been through the same trauma....
