Based on the understanding of and after studying the subject under this program, Information Management (IM110) is aimed at meeting the needs of information and knowledge workers because of their important role in the information industry. There are many courses that I have learned including in semester one, I was taught about introduction to information management (IMD112) and then in the second semester, taught about Access to information (IMD124), semester three was taught Organization of Information (IMD213), fourth semester was taught Introduction to Cataloging (IMD223) and in the final semester are taught about Reference and Information Services for Information Agencies (IMD312) and Management of Libraries and Resource Center (IMD315). These are among the courses that need to be learned and have their own importance that can help students know how to acquire, manage information and also learn some other skills and knowledge. By studying this course, I indirectly have the opportunity to work in the library and information centers sector as Assistant Information Officers, Assistant Administration Officers and many more job opportunities related to information management. In the early semester, I took the Introduction to Information Management (IM110) course which is an introductory course for this Information Management programme. In this course, I has has gained a lot of knowledge about information agencies, how information is disseminated and other related matters. What I know and learn is, Information is something that is told either in printed or electronic form and can also increase our knowledge of a topic and this definition is approximately equal to the definition expressed by Fritz Machlup (1983). Even in this course I also learned about the information life cycle that is information management from the beginning is created until finally disposed of. There are many resources available that we can use to obtain information and it needs to meet some criteria to make that information valuable but we need to wisely reduce the interpretation of information because it can cause information overload and information explosion. This subject also taught me to always make copyrights, patents or trademarks to any of my products as it can prevent the accidental acquisition of ideas by other irresponsible parties. Then I began to know about information agency in aspects of different types of information agencies, their responsibilities and also the objectives for their organization. As far as I know, this agency is the place where data and information systems are spread throughout the country. They meet the demands of users. This subject is easy to understand and began to interest me to learn more about information management programs. Then in the second semester, I studied the Access to Information (IMD124) course which added new knowledge that is about bibliographic control, bibliographic tools and bibliographic utilities and services. I have never heard or read about this term before. In this subject, I learned about bibliographic control which is a list of publications available in an

information agency. As a result of this learning, I know to use the online database used by UiTM library because this bibliogprahic control provides us with information where the material is in the library and tells if the material is available. Then, my new knowledge came to light when I previously reminded the ISBN found on the back of the book just for reference of the price of the book, but in fact it has other roles and purposes. The ISBN number has its own subdivision that has a purpose such as the first part for code for book industry, second part for group identifier and so on. Apart from ISBNs, I also learned about ISSN which is the number used for serial only. The use of ISSN is to promote and facilitate the acquisition process for Serial Malaysia at the national and international levels. In this course I also learn about the Bibliographic tools used by information professionals in the library. I use these tools to find my material in the library by searching using the title and author and indirectly provide search results from a variety of material types. Every tool available is created to make it easier for users and has its own benefits. Third semester, I started to learn something new, which is about information organization (IMD213). This subject is intended to teach about the basic concepts and principles of managing information. I was taught about various ways to manage and obtain information based on rules and standards in producing more systematic information to make it easier for us to store information and retrieve more useful content. This subjects is related to the IMD124 subject I studied in semester two because it involves information management using knowledge of bibliographic control. As a user we need to be aware that there is a lot of information that exists in various formats because it is created for the purpose of conveying information. Therefore, the creators of information should spread the information they want to share with others because otherwise, no one will know about it. Through this subject, I was able to learn ways to get the right information according to my own needs. As a result of this learning, I can also find out the method of Information retrieval that we can use such as manual, namely printed material and computerized method such as database, internet, CDROM and various other materials. My knowledge increased as I began to enjoy learning sessions involving information agency management. I can figure out what collection of materials they will manage, how they manage the material from the beginning of acceptance until finally exhibited to the users. The information agencies I learned about it were libraries, archives and even museums and it was something interesting to learn. I was also taught the basics of compiling the materials available in the library because this matter is important to know if you want to get involved in the field of this program. Before this I did not know that the arrangement on the shelf has two ways namely closed access and open access, which at first I only saw it was a small thing, but it turned out to have its importance. As a student for this program, I need to learn and do more in-depth research on this subject because the

knowledge I gained from this subject can not only be used in this field, but other fields as well. For this fourth semester subject, the subject Introduction to Cataloging (IMD223), at first it was quite challenging because I did not know how to apply this term. Then, after being taught and learning to understand how to do it, I feel happy and proud to be able to solve the exercises questions given by my lecture based on my own understanding. Because during this semester I need online distance learning at home, it is quite difficult to study because it is the first time to study like that. My lecturer advised us to buy an AACR book as it can help us in this subject. She shared with us a sound recording and slide presentation on the topic we learned that day so that it would be easier for us to understand. Then we will be given exercises of the day and do it together with the lecturers and other coursemates. As a result I know how to catalog the materials available in the library. For example, I know to catalog books, pamphlets and printed sheets that involve seven area to be researched to complete the cataloging of a material. Then, I learned about heading for person and also heading for corporate bodies and it is important to be mastered. The most important in cataloging is the punctuation mark because it also plays an important role in cataloging. This should be learned by those of us who take up this field if we want to work in the library or in other information agencies. In the final semester, among the subjects I studied were Reference and Information Services for information Agencies (IMD312) and Management of Libraries and Resources (IMD315). The IMD312 course is about reference and information services that teach me about the process of identifying information needs and most importantly helping users get the information they need. For me this service is important because it plays a role in ensuring that information is available to library users. Apart from that, based on my experience, those who work as reference staff also teach new users how to use library resources and how to do the right search. My experience at PTDI UITM Segamat, I want to borrow materials and those who are at the reference desk do my borrowing process because they are responsible for running an interlibrary loan. Since most libraries use bibliographic databases such as Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), it is easier for users than using manual catalog because users can continue to get material information such as OPAC system used by UiTM itself. However, as information professionals, we need to do an evaluation of information and reference service because it can help improve the quality of services provided and it is one of the activities that need to be done. I once went through where, while in the library I was asked to answer questions about the need for materials and quality of staff in the library. As a result of my cooperation, it can help them improve the quality of staff and also add reading materials according to the needs of users. This is done by the UiTM Segamat library, where

they ask students to answer short questions about the services they offer, whether it is good or not. Evaluation should be done at least once every six months to ensure that the library can meet the needs and provide the best service and then become a library that offers robust service. As for the IMD315 course, I learned about library and resource center management. There is a topic where I learn about the roles and functions of managers for an organization. Basically, managers are the people responsible for managing the organization. For example, their function is to plan the goals and courses of action necessary for their organization. However, to be a good manager, they need to have managerial skills in order to work more effectively. Managers are important people who lead their employees to work to realize the goals of their organization. An example from my experience is, when I work in a fresh mart store, indirectly I have to help the company to achieve their main purpose such as giving customers a taste of fresh ingredients. Later, I also learned about the importance of an organization focused on several aspects such as the hierarchy of strategic intentions such as vision, mission and so on. The importance of this thing because it is a reflection of the future of our organization in the future, we want the organization to grow as it is. Organizations like libraries desperately need their mission because it can provide a clear description of the role of the library, for whom they serve and why they do it. Every organization needs to have a leader who can guide them to do the work so that they can achieve their main purpose of doing it. This can indirectly give birth to a successful organization, the result of its employees who understand the importance of realizing the goals of the organization. All courses under this program have their own importance and they need to be learned if they want to be involved in this field. Lots of new knowledge that I learned and can practice in the future. Now I can get information more easily and accurately the effect of learning the course provided by this program. I hope in the future there will be more systems that can help users get the information as fast as they need to go through a lot of processes. Jobs in the field of information agencies also need to be advertised more so that people know the existence of employees and their functions to the community, the country and especially to their organization....
