Under the Annotated Mona Lisa is the art movement named as Romanticism which is said to be the art movement where interest in exotic subject was born and as well as the focused and the goal of the arts were to express emotions. This movement emphasizes the individual's expression of emotion and imagination. Cult of nature worship was another mark made by the Romanticism wherein painters lifted the status of landscape painting by giving natural scenes heroic overtones. It was said that both man and nature were seen as touched by the supernatural, and one could tap this inner divinity, so the Romantic gospel went, by relying on instinct. It was said to be inspired by the Medieval and Baroque eras and Middle and for East. Romanticism focuses on values such as intuition, emotion and imagination which proves that this art movement aims to promote expression of feelings. Its genres mainly talks about narrative of heroic struggles, landscapes and wild animals. Most artist in this art movement uses unrestrained, deep and rich shaded colors in order to emphasize the feeling that they are trying to express in their art. They also used different techniques such as quick brushstrokes and strong light- and- shade contrast. Under romanticism is the French Romanticism where there was an artist named Theodore Geracault who created the painting "The Raft of the Medusa" which was based on a contemporary event about a shipwreck that causes a political scandal. In order for him to create the painting he built a model raft in his studio and immersed himself as an actor that acts as one of the passengers that struggling to survive. His extraordinary preparation accounts for the painting's grim detail. But Gericault's romantic spirit is at the root of its epic drama. The straining, contorted body language of the nude passengers says everything about the struggle for survival, a theme that obsessed the artist.

Another art movement under the Annotated Mona Lisa was the Realism which focuses on artist approximation of visual reality with consummate skills but it is said the before realism was introduced artist in the nineteenth century modified their subject by idealizing or sensationalizing. The father of realist movement named Gustave Courbet insisted that "painting is essentially a concrete art and must be applied to real and existing things." When he was asked to paint angels, he replied, "I have never seen angels. Show me an angel and I will paint one." The "new" Realism insisted on precise imitation of visual perceptions without alteration. Realism's subject matter was also totally different. Artists limited themselves to facts of the modern world as they personally experienced them; only what they could see or touch was considered real. Gods, Goddesses, and heroes of antiquity were out. Realism aims to promote realistic arts by painting actual scenes rather that imagined ones. Most painters during this movement stated that they only paint what they see and everything outside their sight is out in their painting. Artists such as Cezanne, Sargent, Dufy, Grosz, Klee, and especially Winslow Homer and John Marin used water color because of its significant characteristics are the fluidity and transparency of the point, which allows the white background to show through. Most artists painted different subjects such as human, animals and sceneries. Gods and Goddesses were out in this movement for it shows imagination....
