ART APPRECIATION Activity 1: PRE-TEST 1. It has been a year since we were all affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic, and we continue to strive and fight against the corona virus. How will you envision the beauty within the COVID 19 as an Art Appreciation student? At the onset of this COVID-19 pandemic, almost everyone is getting paranoid because we are going to deal with something we cannot see. At first we were going easy about it, thinking it is an advantage that we have a hot climate here in the Philippines and that the virus won’t survive that long. Not until COVID-19 cases rapidly rose each day. We had this fear of going out, thinking that the virus could just randomly pick you and then jump at you. It has been a year since lockdown and while we are still at community quarantine, it was really hard to get by every single day. Most people are away from their family. Almost all of us are used to having fun outside. This virus has really limited us from having fun. As an Art Appreciation student, amidst this pandemic, I could say there is still beauty with all the hardships we dealt with and we continue to keep dealing with. Pretty much everyone has discovered they were good at something like baking, painting, poetry, dancing (at Tiktok), singing, editing, crafting, marketing, selling, and even landscaping (a lot of people became Plant-Titas and Plant-Titos). It is beautiful that people get to discover another side of them at this time when we are really unsure of what tomorrow could bring. It is beautiful that when this virus has stopped us from having fun outside, we were still able to find fun through our creativities. It is beautiful that we’re not giving up. It is beautiful that we continue to live and not to just exist. We are at an ocean of uncertainty. It is difficult being clueless but this is life. May we always find the beauty in uncertainty where anything is changeable and possible. Our fear could drown us but having courage every moment to keep forward will keep us swimming and fighting this pandemic, and I think that is beautiful. 2. How can you describe your understanding on ART APPRECIATION? I want to be honest about my prior understanding on Art Appreciation subject. Drawing is my weakness, although it is safe to say that I am creative. So I assumed that there is going to be a lot of drawings and such. Now that I answered the first question above, my perception on this subject suddenly changed. I am starting to think that in this subject, it will let me look into different forms and kinds of art and appreciate each distinguished characteristics of it. I am also looking forward to applying my sense of creativity. If there will be drawing activities, even when I’m weak at it, it is alright for me to always try because there is art in trying. All in all, my understanding on Art Appreciation is clear as day, appreciating and also doing different kinds and forms of art. Whatever this subject could offer, I aspire to learn more about arts and to unleash the artistic side of me....
