Cite one detail from the reading material to support your answer.  The penis painting is a high art because it is shown in the art gallery that is exclusive to people who paid to see different paintings and other artworks. Gomez’s painting, despite of its simplicity, is included in a high-profile art gallery with other influential and respected artists which is also why the painting is sold at a higher price. As mentioned in the article, some people argue that vandalisms of the male genitalia figure found in public bathrooms were much better than Gomez’s penis painting. The difference is that vandalisms are considered low art while the ones shown in the museums or art galleries are considered high art. It is high art in the sense that the painting allows us to engage and interpret ideas that furthers our understanding of the artwork itself and the art industry.

2. Is Richard Gomez an “artist”? Cite one detail from the reading material to support your answer.  Yes, I think that Richard Gomez is an artist even though I and other people consider his painting as a mediocre art. It is stated in the article that he is a neophyte in the industry and that his early work is one of the reasons why his painting is sold for a higher price. Many artists are pressed about this not because he cannot paint but because of how his public status as an actor-turned-politician gave him the leverage to gain fame and earn a six-digit figure for his penis painting. Although it is indeed unfair for those who can do better paintings than Gomez’s penis painting, we cannot disregard that he is also an artist despite of his painting looking like a mediocre art. I think that anyone who do art could be an artist in a sense that everyone is creative in their own ways.
