The Dynamic Association Between Motor Skill Development and Physical Activity Summary Throughout the times, we have continuously study the relationship between physical inactivity and chronic diseases, thus increasing our awareness into engaging in physical activities to lower the risks, however not many people understand the developmental process that physical activities induce in children developing their motor skills. There is a direct connection to the child’s motor skill and their physical activity, children with more competent motor skills are more likely to engage in physical activities and vice versa. When developing motor skills as a child, many factors come into play and these can all affect how a child acquires certain skills and abilities in physical activities. Albeit these skills do not standout during the developmental stages (I.e. childhood) they do become prevalent in the later stages in a person’s life (adolescence and adulthood). There is a matter of self-awareness in these cases, where a person who has more developed motor skills are aware that they are competent, thus choosing to engage in physical activities more, whereas people with underdeveloped motor skills will feel less competent thus avoiding physical activities altogether. Research has shown that common fundamental motor skills (FMS) are just as important to develop as much as encouraging an active lifestyle.

Reflection: This article tackles a topic in physical development that not many people take notice of when entering physical activities, understanding that the importance of common fundamental motor skills are equally as important as physical fitness can greatly improve your results when tackling activities related to physical development. Understanding variables that can affect the development of motor skills will also help you in guiding others towards reaching a more achievable goal in a more efficient manner as well. This article helps enlighten others about the necessity of teaching and encouraging children on being physically active on a day to day basis. It also helps others understand why some people feel indifferent towards such activities and others feel passionate. It will also help in aiding others in developing their FMS in the later stages of their life, since one can never be too late in learning to be physically fit. The article talks about the difference in how some kids approach physical activities, there are two general types: those who engage, and those who disengage. Among the two types, the only factor that was taken into consideration is the level of development on their respective motor skills. What it had shown was that those with low levels showed great disinterest in physical activities, while those who had higsh levels showed a great affinity towards physical activities and sports. It encourages the fact that many people have different perspectives about sports and physical activities altogether, but all these people lack are improvements in their motor skills and more encouragement.
