Journal 8:1: Course Reflection

Journal 8:1 Course Reflections Three things in this class that I learned that help me better to understand how to effectively use healthcare reimbursement are the components of the revenue cycle. Understanding that there is a frontend, middle, and backend process to help ensure that reimbursement is done efficiently and effectively. Before this class I did not know there were so many processes that contribute to reimbursement. Knowing that the beginning of the process is just as important as the end of the process. The beginning sets the tone to how the end will end. For example, making sure that all patients information is correct, that you get all insurance information, making sure that you are using the right ICD-codes all play a huge factor on determining reimbursement. For me this will help me in my own personal life I will know how I should be billed and the steps it takes to ensure that I am billed properly, I will also be able to look at my record and determine if there are any errors and if there are I can address it. Professionally, when I do start my career, I will go in the door knowing the expectations of reimbursement and with my newfound knowledge I am to ensure that I am following all compliances and that I do my very best to provide accurate information in a timely manner. Making sure that I stay up to date with regulations and ICD codes is also something that I will take pride in doing. Also, providing each patient with the best customer as soon as they step foot in the facility, I may choose to work in will be something that I will make sure that I do, because that is where it all starts that first foot in the door!
