Summary

The discussion on Netiquette...

Description

Netiquette is network etiquette, the do's and don'ts of online communication. Netiquette covers both common courtesy online and the informal "rules of the road" of cyberspace. (Shea, 1997). 1. We use netiquette because it:

2.

(i)

It discourages inappropriate online conduct and conflicts by encouraging courteousness and good behaviour when we are interacting with people online.

(ii)

Encourages social interaction in that people feel more free to share and interact without being insulted

(iii)

Promotes a safe, engaging, respectful and collaborative group where diversity of opinions is

Consequences of bad netiquette in the classroom

When the students don’t abide to netiquette it can lead to the following consequences: (i)

Lose of respect not only to their teacher but also to their fellow learner I respect everyone’s opinions and feedback, but it’s understandable to lose respect for some who doesn’t follow netiquette rules.

(ii)

Alienation due to bad netiquette, I have never experienced this but in my opinion no one ever wants to be associated with anyone rude or disrespectful.

(iii)

Bad netiquette can lead to students dropping the class since they will feel that their opinions aren’t being taken seriously. I have actually had to drop out of an online class due to disrespectful and insulting comments made on my work. I felt that even if I would be benefiting from the lessons my peace of mind was at risk.

3. How does netiquette relate to peer assessment? Netiquette is the rules of delivering information in the internet for example email, social media, online discussions and forums whereas peer assessment is the process of assessing and giving feedback on fellow students work. While delivering feedback to our fellow learners we always make sure you do it in a polite and constructive way which is netiquette in a way since you follow the netiquette rules while doing so. 4. Importance of using good manners while leaving feedback. Good manners are important in every aspect of our life when dealing with people, when you give feedback to a person in a nice way even if their work isn’t up to standards it will encourage them to do better next time. As opposed to when you leave feedback in a rude way, the person will start doubting their capabilities and might not be encouraged to move on from their failures. 5. How I feel about the feedback I gave and the ones I received.

It felt good to hear how the others think about my work, you never know how well you know a subject till you contribute to a discussion where you get opinions of other students. I got to learn a lot from their contributions and was able to amend my mistakes from the positive criticism I received and it helped advance my knowledge too. Giving feedback on another person’s writing was a little bit challenging, because I didn’t know how the person would take my comment. I was also afraid of misleading anyone by trying to sound polite and still be able to tell someone their work was lacking in some way.

In conclusion, Netiquette is just like the etiquette we keep when interacting with people face to face. Netiquette helps avoid so many online feuds and quarrels Reference Shea, V. (1997). Emoticons. Retrieved from http://www.albion.com/netiquette/book/0963702513p59.html

Then, complete the following exercise: 1. What is the title of the article? The Effects of Leveraged Buyouts 2. Who is the author (or who are the authors)? Abbie Smith. 3. What year was the article published? 1990 4. What is the title of the journal? Business Economics 5. What is the Volume number, Issue number, and page numbers? Vol 25, No. 2, Pages 19-25 6. 7. Using the information from #1-6, write the APA reference for the journal article you found. The reference goes at the end of your work, after all of your writing is finished. Smith, A. (1990). The Effects of Leveraged Buyouts. Business Economics, 25(2), 19-25. Retrieved February 12, 2021, from http://www.jstor.org/stable/23485953

8. Now, let’s write the in-text citation, to use at the end of a sentence you are writing. Intext citations are always (Author, Year). Using the information from #7, write the APA in-text citation for the book you found. The relative insensitivity to macroeconomic factors of the sales revenues of firms that subsequently go private provides some assurance that the strong post buyout cash flows are not due entirely to the strength of the recent economy.
