Description

Lemon Grove Incident The lemon Grove Incident was a significant event that took place in the American and basically demarcated the amalgamation of other cultures into the US, and also the Americanization of those cultures. This event happened in the 1930s, in Lemon Grove, California, where the white society had an increasing distress regarding the Mexican integration with their children. Eventually, these worries resulted to a hurried solution where they resolved to isolate the children of Mexican origin in a second class school. This triggered criticism in the Mexican society and with the aid of the Mexican ambassador to the US as well as his lawyer who filed a case for racial isolation. The board of the institution attempted to defend its undertakings pretending that many of the Mexican kids aren’t fluent in English which reduces the pace of the learning rate of the class. They also mentioned that the ethics and hygienic standards of the mixed classes was wanting. Towards the end of the interrogation the board was desperate and started using lame excuses such as the rails blocking the kids. Ultimately, the defense was futile since the Mexicans were regarded as Caucasian under the federal law making the segregation was unconstitutional since it will have stopped the key dormant function of the schools; the Americanization process. In my opinion, this case is significant in current times because institution boards are still separated, however, through social classes instead of racial segregation although the boundary between race and social class may haze because of geographical aspects. I found this video to be interesting since I have always been speculating why most of my Latino buddies aren’t fluent in English even if there parents can speak a few words. Being a bilingual, I may never comprehend the motivation behind wanting to destroy such a fundamental cultural linkage. Although, this documentary video has

enabled me to explore the cognizance of the first generation Americans encountering racial segregation...
