Description

Online Library Academic Databases Where do I find credible sources? Your best bet in finding credible sources for academic essays is to use library databases. These databases collect thousands of articles from magazines, journals, newspapers and books. This material will provide you with more depth than you will find through most websites via a simple Google search. Much of the material is also professionally peer reviewed. Here’s how to access the databases available through the Richland library: 1. 2.

3.

Copy the following link into your browser: www.dcccd.edu/databases In the upper right hand corner of your screen you will see a link for “Academic Search Complete.” You will also find “Opposing Viewpoints,” “CQ Researcher,” and JSTOR

On the next screen you will be asked to login using your DCCCD email and econnect password. If you are not sure how to do this, read the instructions at the bottom of this document. 4. After logging in, you will be directed to the EBSCO search page where you have options to narrow or limit your search. Click “Full Text” in the search limits box. This will ensure that you have access to the full text of any article that comes up in the search. 5. Enter your search terms and click “search” and your results will appear. Read the abstract (summary) to decide if the article is suited to your research. You can print, email or save the articles that you find most promising. 6. Citations: One great thing about EBSCO is that it will create your works cited entry for you. When you click on the name of any article you will be shown the full abstract and publication information. You will also see an icon on the right of your screen that reads “cite”. Click this icon and a works cited entry will be created for you. Be sure to ask it for the MLA style citation. You can copy and paste this citation onto your works cited page. It’s as easy as that. (Of course, you will also need to make sure that you have proper in-text citations in the body of your essay for any information you quote, paraphrase or summarize.)

Logging in to the Library: You should be able to access the library database pages with your DCCCD-assigned email and eConnect password. Your DCCCD Student Email address is the letter "e" and your student number and @student.dcccd.edu (for example: [email protected]). When you see the logon screen (below) use your DCCCD email and your eConnect password. If you aren't seeing this screen, please call the library reference desk at 972238-6082. To access the library database pages, you can use the shortcut www.dcccd.edu/databases. Then click on the database of your choice....
