Lone Wolf Terrorism-The Boston Bombers

Lone-wolf teorrist is defined as a single individual not ordered by a group but by their own decision to conduct a terrorist act based on a certain belief. They can be fueled or inspired by a group's ideology but are ordered by a group to commit a terrorist attack. An example of this are the two Boston Marathon bombers. The two brothers were born in Russia but lived in America starting in 2002. Their motives behind the attack were the war in iraq and afghanistan and that they wanted to protect islam from the United States, which beoiefs are shared by many terrorist oragnizations orginating from the middle east. The youngest brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, said that his older brother was the driving force behind the attacks and that he was following his lead. The brother also said the the people killed int he bombings were collateral damage just like the innocent people killed in the middle east due to the war on terror involving America. There are theories that protecting Islam from America was a secondary drive for the attacks and that the main reason was sympathy towards the Caucasas region and Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s, the oldest brother, inability to fully integrate intoamerican culture and society. The attacks are characterized as a Lone Wolf terrorist attack because the brothers acted without the support or order from a group or organization. Although sharing many of the same views that terrorist groups have and is what drives them, they acted on their own beliefs. It is even said that the bombers used an online al-qaeda magazine to make the pressure cooker bombs. After a man hunt which shut down Boston, the brothers were ultimately caught which resulted in the oldest brother being killed in a shootout against police. The other brother was arrested and was sentenced to the death penalty.
