Mandy Harvey’s Story Introduction A. Mandy Harvey: award winning singer, songwriter and motivational speaker. - Her experience helps others to embrace their pivot (regarding to when she completely lost her hearing) B. Who is Mandy Harvey? - Birthdate: January 2nd, 1988 (currently 30) - Born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Moved to St. Cloud, Florida. While still young, moved to Colorado Background Information A. Family history - Parents are Joe and Valerie Harvey; has three siblings - Her father is hearing. The rest of her family is uncertain B. How became deaf / use CI or hearing aid / oral - Lost her hearing due to a connective tissue disorder at 18 - Left music program when lost her hearing - Does speak and sign - When she moved back home, she began taking ASL classes and got involved in the deaf community C. Education - Started singing in choir when she was 4 years old; growing up, she had been hard of hearing - Was a Vocal Music Major at Colorado State University (left after neurological disorder) - Pursued different career options before going back to music D. Famous for? - Known for appearance on America’s Got Talent, singing original song “Try”, and Simon Cowell giving her the Golden Buzzer Shows and Awards A. America’s Got Talent (2017) – Simon Cowell gave her the Golden Buzzer, sending her through to the live shows, placed fourth overall B. In 2011, won VSA’s Top Young Soloist Award, later performed at Kennedy Center in DC (personal dream) C. Featured on following: NBC Nights News, Canada AM, The Steve Harvey Show, and Los Angeles Times. What she’s doing now A. Creating music (new music is being worked on) B. Going on tour (currently on tour) C. Inspirational speaker D. Became ambassadors to No Barriers USA and Invisible Disabilities. Retired as a IDA Ambassador in 2017 when she learned she would be on America’s Got Talent Closing
