PURPOSE OF MEDICATION

Expected Pharmacological Action lower surface tension of the stool to allow penetration of water, softens stool so it can be passed easier

Therapeutic Use treatment of constipation, softening of fecal impactment

Complications gi irritation, rectal burning sensation, toxic magnesium levels, dehydration

Contraindications/Precautions in clients with fecal impaction, bowel obstruction, and acute surgical abdomen to prevent perforation, clients with nausea, cramping, and abdominal pain, ulcertive colitis and diverticulitis

Interactions

Medication Administration take with 8oz of water
