Subject Overview Abstract This is an industry subject based on the Project Management Institute (PMI®) methodology (as defined by the PMBoK® - Project Management Body of Knowledge) to prepare students for subsequent Project Management Professional (PMP®) or similar certification. In this subject, students will look at how to initiate, plan, control and complete projects effectively and ensure that projects are performed to meet objectives within specific cost and time constraints, according to the PMI®.

Learning outcomes Upon successful completion of this subject, students should: • be able to critically evaluate the relevance and function of the PMI® Project Management Body of Knowledge; • be able to compare and critically analyse the role and function of each of the core project process groups (budget, scope, risk, schedule, resources, quality); • be able to identify and predict risks and challenges to effective project management in a business context; • be able to identify project stakeholders and analyse their influence on a project; • be able to create a Scope of Work (SoW) and to formulate a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS); and • be able to use project management tools and methods to manage project outcomes.

Learning, teaching and support strategies Online Tutorial Time and Location For this subject regular online tutorials and recordings are a primary component of the Online Learning experience; in these sessions Mentors will provide in-depth instruction on study topics, assessments and student feedback. Your online session will be held on: Monday 8:00pm - Sydney time You can access the online session via the following Zoom link: https://itmasters.zoom.us/j/882387431 You will be provided with the details on how to access these tutorials in your first week of session, via the Interact Subject Forum, and recordings of all sessions will be uploaded to the Resources section of Interact. These sessions are not mandatory, however your attendance data may be utilised in assessing requests for assignment extensions, resubmission or additional assessment for borderline exam results. *Session day/time should be confirmed via the Subject Forum at the beginning of session as is subject to change. Note that this is standard time. Please carefully check your time zone converter for the correct time in your time zone. Please note that daylight saving time ends on the 5th of April 2020. How you are expected to engage with the subject This is an online course which relies heavily on your own, self-directed learning. It’s suggested that you follow the same study process each week, namely: 1. Read through your subject Announcements section (in the left-hand navigation menu) for any updates or new information. 2. Read the relevant topic for that week in the Learning material section (in the lefthand navigation menu). Complete any readings, work through the online learning material and complete the activities provided. 3. Visit Discussions (in the left-hand navigation menu). Enter the applicable forum and post your answers to topic discussion questions, your thoughts, assessment questions or simply respond to other people's posts. This is a safe learning space for you to comment, question or simply explore ideas with your peers, so please use it. Studying at university does not mean studying alone. 4. Attend your weekly Online meeting (in the left-hand navigation menu). After you have attended your meeting, we suggest then reviewing your answers to activities and any sections of your readings in a more considered way. designed to give you focus in the topic, so it really helps to prepare a useful set of answers to them. The discussion forums are extremely important as a space for peer-to-peer learning, where students can benefit from each other’s knowledge and experience. Your subject mentor might not respond to every post, but they do read every contribution and comment as necessary. There are a number of support activities designed to assist your learning: • Online meetings Weekly online meetings via Zoom will be conducted in order to direct your weekly learning and provide an opportunity to ask questions and interact with your peers. You will be provided more detail on how and when to access the sessions via the Announcements section in the first weeks of Session. Online meetings will be recorded for later access. Students who do not attend these online meetings or access the recordings may be contacted by phone or email to check on their progress and if there are any issues with their study. Students are expected to have access to a personal computer with a connection to the internet (mandatory for this subject). Students will require a Windows PC or a Mac to study. IT Masters may not be able to accommodate software or textbook requirements for students running other systems. Microsoft Windows 7 or later, or OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) or later are recommended operating systems, with Google Chrome v34 or later, Mozilla Firefox v34 or later, Internet Explorer v8 or later, Microsoft Edge v12 or Apple Safari v6 or later.
