LEADERSHIP TRAITS & SKILLS

Leadership are mostly applied to the standard of a leading man. Perhaps it is one of life’s significant thing where they are the main role that must be a good example to many people in this world. In fact they are many of the leaders that we don’t know who has a poor life background but in in the end they succeed because of their hardwork and also they grasp the opportunities that were emerged infront of their eyes. So sometimes becomes a leader also requires you to be smart in taking opportunities for your own benefit and also can adapt to their surroundings environment and empower the people around them to succeed together and no company or organization will thrive without good leader to guide them. But however not everyone has the quality itself to become a leader. This is because successful leadership demands such essential features. (Grint et. al., 2016). Elon Musk is an excellent example of a good leader where he is different compared to the others leaders where he is so passionate about his work where he compares his work as oxygen and always uses his time to thinking new ideas and solving problems in his company. He also a motivated person where he had 5 things that he had thought 25 years back that will change the world which is genetics and AI, the internet, accelerating the transition towards sustainable energy and making life multi planetary. And 25 years after that he had solved all the problems that he had stated years ago by his own company which is SpaceX, Paypal, Tesla and OpenAI. From personal integrity, Elon Musk also always has guided by a strong sense of personal values where has earned him/her great respect from staff, competitors, advisers, family and wider community. He has a potential to influence by contribute something to the world that improves it in a new and different way. (Sadnan,2017) Besides that, he have a high self confidence where he invests his own money on his business which costs $165 million in total. In the end, he has profit for over $100 billion dollars. Just like people said, Musk has been compared to some of our greatest visionaries, including late Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and has been described by his coworker as "brilliant, dynamic, charismatic" and "an exceptional freak of nature." (Julia, 2016)

LEADERSHIP BEHAVIOUR

For better understanding, leadership behaviours consists of task orientation and relations orientation. So what is the meaning for both of this statements? So task orientation is a behavioral approach that need to be performed in order to meet certain goals, or to achieve a certain performance standard in which the leader focuses on the tasks available. From there ,Elon Musk had done it by by rewarding its workers for doing their job in one of his companies, Tesla. According to Elektrek, new hires especially for the workers who were new in the company were given between $20,000 and $40,000 dollars of restricted which vest after three years, starting one year after they start their time at Tesla. Besides that, Tesla also provides performance-based equity bonuses but these are on hold because of the pandemic that was happening today. Besides that, offers employee guidance where he always be there for their workers and have a small talk if there’s a problem that cannot be solved. From his belief, he uses feedback to find a solution because people has many opinions so if Musk can listens to their opinions, so Musk can evaluate the things that were uncoordinated in the company. For him, critism is a value to him because you can constantly thinking about what you've done and how you could be doing it better. From there you can detect which is the right choice and which it is a wrong choice. About relations oriented, Elon Musk done it by motivating his teams. It is done by he pushes his senior executives to find ways to motivate and inspire their employees through selflessness. He suggests that leaders do this to reduce their stress during their work. The reasons why Elon Musk do this method it is because he don’t want his team leaders to be stress which it can affect the companies development where the leaders will not serve for his team. Leaders are important to serve your team and help them do the best possible job for the company. So that’s why Musk don’t want the chemistry in the company fades just because of stress in work.

LEADERSHIP POWER

Every company must have a leader who will lead them towards their accomplishment. Without a leader there will be no accomplishment to our company. Position power as we all know is the power given to the leader by the organization. It’s the power granted to the leader based on the job title. Same as Elon Musk who were a leader of a company and was responsible to guide their workers who work for him succeed the company. Throughout his leadership, he wants his team to be collaborative, whether you’re dumb or a smart person but if there’s no teamwork in a company, its pointless. He always leads by ‘doing’ than ‘telling’ so he can set himself as an example to his team to succeed as one.

The primary source of Elon Musk’s power (Pennsylvania State, 2014) is his money. That’s shows how power he is as a personal. He has personal wealth and he had planned right from the start to accumulate

a collection of investors that now

including NASA and now he succeed. He also not like other rich people who always spend their money on buying mansions, cars and wealthy things by billions of dollars. He will spend and invest his money billion of dollars to create trillions of opportunities. He hires brilliant and talented individuals that can develop his company. From that’s perspective has shown the separation between him and most of those venture capitalists which is his vision.

Elon Musk also uses his power to influence not just individuals but also organizations and the government to change their perspective towards space travels (Junod,2012). Instead of focusing on what we capable of, Elon wants the Americans to focusing on what we should do such as activities not just to preserve for the better future but also to sustain primaly on the future of the human species. Elon Musk works to chane the attitude and behaviours of investors, engineers and innovator. It is not enough just him to inspire the people all around the world but he needs somehow someone that can stand for him and if he wants to restore this country’s explorer’s heart, its willingness to endure risk. “ (Junod, 2012).
