7/5/16 Parasites: Eating Us Alive We hear tragic stories of how bacteria, parasites and fungus invade our lives on a daily basis. Whether it’s someone sneezing on the back of your neck, to an individual not washing their hands after going to the bathroom, then goes to handle your food. In this life humans are bound to be invaded by one of many microorganisms. Now I’m not saying to go live in a bubble or be paranoid by hear this information. As a matter of fact, there are good bacteria known as normal flora that is on us and in us to help with invasion or complete different functions throughout the body. In the movie Parasites Eating Us Alive shares multiple situations of how these microorganisms invade our bodies. Some cases consist of but is not limited to ingestion, sexual contact or even an open wound on our skin. One topic that I will cover from the movie is the tape worm. This specimen is usually found in the environment in another multicellular organism such as an animal. This parasite it transferred over via ingestion and resides in the intestine of humans. The tapeworm category could be broken down into subcategories such as round worm and flat worm based on it physical orientation. Tapeworms could enter our bodies through contaminated water or undercooked meat. A few common tapeworms highlighted in the movie was the Taenia saginata from beef, Taenia solium from pork and Diphyllobothrium latum from fish. Taenia solium is known to cause neurocysticerosis which is a disease that effects the nervous system. Typically, these organisms like to eat away at the brain and could lead to epileptic seizures....
