While re-watching my informative speech video, I notice some points that I am proud of and other ones that make me reconsider my persuasive speech. I used three non-verbal techniques; those were visual aids, gestures, and personal appearance. My visual aids help me to explain my topic better. Also, I as stated in The Art of Public Speaking, visual aids help you avoid stage fright, so I used images as nonverbal techniques and to deal with nervousness. My gestures were accordingly to my topic; I did not gesticulate exaggeratedly; neither did I stay rigid. When deciding my outfit, I try to keep it simple and under our Keiser’s dress code “dress like you mean business.” When delivering my speech, I used three verbal delivery methods that are attention-getter, language, and conversational delivery. My attention-getter helped me to get the attention of my audience, and it was the alert that I will start my speech. When I was rehearsing my speech, I try to modify my language according to my audience and make it as clear as possible and concrete words. At the same time, I work in keeping the speech in a conversational delivery. That way, my audience could notice my knowledge and not perceive my nervousness. Watching at my video speech again, I realized that It was not free of vocalized pauses. Now on, when I have to prepare a speech, I will follow the recommendations of The Art of Public Speaking, practice my pauses, and working on not filling the silence with “uh,” “er,” or “um.” In evaluating my speech from a standpoint, I think it was effective and memorable because I used some of the advice in our readings, and is a start for better speeches....
