Abstract The Natural Boutique, native to St John’s in Newfoundland, is a company that concentrates in the making and the distribution of seal-derived products in a more environmentally sound way. The focus is on how the Natural Boutique can broaden its horizon and possibly touch exterior markets and other products from the same industry. It is important to set up a solid line of information before such an exposure so as to properly educate the potential customers about the product and also the company. Norway is the targeted market as it shows great prospects that will definitely tip the weight in our favour. Similar character characteristics in several areas seem to make Norway appropriate.

The Natural Boutique is a Canadian company specialising in products derived from seals, more exactly seal fur. It goes through this process in an incredibly environmentally sound way while at the same time sustaining local, Newfoundland and Labrador communities and also by providing opportunities to the aboriginal people. The people from the small indigenous towns and villages are not forgotten either as they are really important through every stage this project, be it from the retrieving of the fur to the designing of the final products. The original location of the Natural Boutique shop was in St John’s, Newfoundland and since there has been a great demand there are occasional pop ups that come about in St John’s itself. Clothing and footwear are what the Natural Boutique will concentrate on exporting. The company might come up with more designs and ways in which seal fur can be used, as a broader variety of products will attract a wider crowd instead just making parkas and coats as clothing but the general idea and the wide variety of products available is a good way to start. There could be introduction of sweaters, cardigans among others. Norway was chosen for very specific reasons. First of all, it is important to clarify that the company is a very socially responsible entity and hence making sure that the products are for utilitarian purposes rather one-off use for showing off purpose is really important. Hence Norway, a country that faces sub zero temperatures is a really good target. The environmental challenges that Norwegians face are quite similar to Newfies hence the utilitarian aspect satisfies. Furthermore, seal derived products tend to be on the more expensive side of the spectrum. The real GDP per head in Norway, which is an approximate measure of the disposable income, is 11th worldwide (CIA, 2018), making them a comfortable population who are able to afford these types of products. There is also the fact that Canada shares a goods free trade agreement with Norway (Government of Canada, June 2009), which benefits the business of Natural Boutique as there are no expensive additional costs added to the pre-existing ones such as tariffs, on ground set up among others. Shipping costs might also be cheaper as Norway is not that far from St John’s.
