Description

This interview is being conducted to analyse consumer behaviour regarding fast fashion and more specifically the top global fast fashion retailer- SHEIN. We would like to thank y cou for your time and effort in taking part in this interview. Key definitions: Fast Fashion: Inexpensive clothing produced rapidly by mass-market retailers in response to the latest trends We would like to gain a better understanding of YOUR involvement in the fashion industry and a little bit about your favourite fashion brands  1.

How frequently do you shop at a known fast fashion retailer? - I don’t shop at all at overtly fast fashion retailers, I just assume because I pay a lot of money for clothes that they would be made ethically but that may not be the case

2.

List your top 3 fashion brand and the reason why for each of them. - Acne Studios – really nice stuff - Incu – more of a store with lots of brands but have a lot of good stuff in one place - Ganni – nice stuff as well, Scandinavian style and they are always ahead in terms of whats good

3.

Do you keep up with fashion trends?, furthermore, how often do you renew your wardrobe? - I do keep up, I buy a new piece of clothing at least once a week and continually sell stuff I don’t want on depop

4.

When shopping for apparel, what are the most important factors you take into account? (e.g. Quality, ethical, Brand, functionality, cheap …) - Quality most important, secondly probably functionality, I honestly just look for stuff I don’t have anything like

5.

Is online shopping more preferrable for you? Why or why not? - yes because its everything in one place and allows you to shop internationally, also exposed to brands that you wouldn’t have known about

In this section of the survey we will focus on the concept of fast fashion and YOUR perceptions on ethical production in this industry. 6.

When purchasing clothing from a brand, do you carry out research on how ethical they are? If yes, which of the following are you mostly concerned about in fast fashion production and why? (Environmental?, Labour?, Material?) - I don’t usually but when I know that its ethical that’s a plus, environmental factors worry me the most

7.

The main reason why fast fashion is unethical is because the clothing produced is not built to last and it quickly goes out of style, these clothes are quickly discarded and pile up in landfills. In addition to this, there are also ethical concerns such as the lack of safe working conditions in the sweatshops that these clothes are made in. Are these also your concerns when it comes to fast fashion? If you answered no, please explain why. - Yes massive concern

In the last section of the survey we will centre our attention on the retailer SHEIN. 8.

How familiar are you with the brand SHEIN? Please answer in as much detail as possible. - I have never been on the website, all the experience I have is with objections to the brand and its affiliation with fast fashion, like when you see an ad and you think it’s from the original and then you click on it and its actually a shein ad that has copied a piece from a smaller brand or something, super unethical supported by the very cheap prices, terrible quality

9.

If SHEIN were to implement ethical practices in their operations process this would result in higher costs and as a result SHEIN would need to increase their prices. How would you feel about this and would you still be happy to pay for their clothing? - I don’t think id every pay for their clothing but it’d be nice to see any brand take a step back from unethical practices, and a higher price from the prices shein has now would still be affordable

10. How do you think SHEIN is affecting you, or someone you know, in terms of your online shopping habits? (for instance, the online shop offers coupons as well as free delivery when your shopping cart has hit a certain number of orders).Do you think these incentives provided by SHEIN have a significant impact on you and motivate you to purchase more? - I think its very popular for younger people for a reason, they have to pay practically nothing for clothes that are copies of brands that use ethical standards and better quality but have more expensive prices so obviously they are going to go for the cheaper option. The price tag kind of wipes out any worries about ethical practices in production for a lot of people, and many don’t have the option of shopping ethically which is a problem

We would like to thank you for your participation in this interview. Your responses will assist us in better understanding consumer behaviour regarding fast fashion....
