1.) What is peer assessment, and why do we use it at University of the People? Peer Assessment or peer review provides a structured learning process for students to critique and provide feedback to each other on their work. It helps to develop lifelong skills in assessing and providing feedback to others and equips them with skills to self-assess and improve their own work. At University of the People peer to peer learning is an important aspect of it unique educational model. It enables student to participate in a system of peer assessment for their discussion assignment. Teamwork and cooperation are developed through peer assessments. These skills also help students in professional settings. It helps them to deal with feedbacks and constructive criticisms that they may reserve from their peers.

2.) What are the benefits of peer assessment? Peer assessment can empower students to take responsibility for and manage their own learning. It enables students to learn to assess and give others constructive feedback to develop lifelong assessment skills. Peer assessment enhance students learning through knowledge discussion and exchange of ideas. It also motivates engage students to engage with course material more deeply. So far peer assessment has help me a lot because during discussion assignment I learn a lot from my peers as to how I could have answered the question more precisely.

3.) What are the challenges of giving peer feedback in peer assessment? Giving peer feedback in peer assessment can be challenging. Sometimes I want to leave feedback on my peer assignment, but I am afraid that it will come off as negative and unhelpful. I sometimes worry that my peer will not like me and might leave a negative assessment on my work because the misinterpret feedback that I have given them before. I sometimes think that my peer can’t handle my feedback and won’t do anything with it.

4.) What are the challenges of receiving peer feedback in peer assessment? Sometimes the feedback that I received from my peers affects my ego and makes me question my self-worth. Sometimes it is hard to not take the feedback personal. Sometimes it is hard to understand the feedback. 5.) What strategies will you use to peer assess written assignments? How will you assess discussion assignments? I will peer assess written assignments by been specific and descriptive on what I am giving feedback on. I will ensure that my feedback is clear for the peer to understand what I mean. I will pay attention to see if my peer stays on topic and pay attention to all the instructions. In discussion assignment I will try to use clear language, be brief and to the point so that my peer will understand my feedback. I will make sure that my feedback is constructive.
