Description

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT - PEER ASSSESSMENT What is peer assessment and why do we use it at Uopeople? Peer assessment is the process where we as students assess each other’s work according to the manner or other criteria that the school has set for us. And often giving back feedback to each other on the work we’ve done. At Uopeople, we use peer assessment because through it we develop various skills that enhances our learning. Peer assessing at Uopeople helps the students to reach deeper understanding of the course concepts and by reading carefully the learning guide, they are able to understand he concepts they are accessing. And most importantly, students get to understand better through teaching each other. What are the benefits of peer assessment? Peer assessment allows students to work together while determining each other’s area of strength and weakness. Students are trained for life beyond their university life to develop their own capabilities to evaluate the quality of their own work and those of others. Peer assessment helps the students to develop important skills like; communication, judgmental skills, critiquing abilities, self-awareness, leadership as well as time management, that will improve their learning and comprehension during their studies. Challenges of giving peer feedback in peer assessment? Some students will tend to give their friends good feedback or higher marks. Students who lack the information they need to have in order to asses will sometimes not give the appropriate feedback. Some will also always give the same marks to everyone.

Challenges of receiving peer feedback in peer assessment? Some students get hurt when they receive negative feedback from their fellow classmates. Those that did not clearly understand the topic might give wrong feedback to others. The students that might feel like they are better than others might not want to receive feedback from those that they feel they are better than. What strategies will you use to peer assess written assignment? How will you assess discussion assignments? To assess the assignments I will use the SWOT analysis: Strengths – if the work shows evidence of success, that its complete and well answered. Weakness – if there are areas that need to more effort and to be worked on again Opportunities – the work could be further developed Threats- if there are obstacles to improvement Checklist/ Rubrics- which provides a list of things to look for that are an outline of success criteria and includes descriptions of levels of performance to guide and focus assessment. And for the discussion assignments, I will asses by the quality of their work. References: Santos, S. ; Coutinho, P. ; Flores, A. (2016). Online Peer Assessment: Method and Digital Technologies.
