2. TEKS & Behavioral Objective: 117.103, 1E: Identify beat, rhythm, and simple to tone or three tone melodies using iconic representation. At the completion of the lesson the students will be able to recognize whole, half, and quarter note values, using a Kit Kat bar as representation. At the end the Students will take a small quiz for the teacher to gage the students grasp on the information. 3. Focusing Activity: At the beginning of class I will play a Old McDonald on speakers. I will then start to clap half note and quarter note rhythms along the to song. I will play a rhythm and ask the students to clap thee rhythm back to me. I will do this till the completion of the song. 4. Plan/ Procedure/Presentation Phase 1: The teacher will write down whole, half, and quarter notes on the white board. The teacher will then pass out a Kit Kat bar to each of the students Phase 2: The teacher will explain how each of one whole Kit Kat bar represents a whole note in 4/4 time. When the bar is broken in half, it will represent two half notes. When the two halves are combined together they create a whole note. When the halves are broken in half, fours, we have quarter notes. 4 bars represent 4 quarter notes, which combined into two create half notes, and when combined in 4 create a whole note. Phase 3: The students will turn to each other and repeat the note values to each other, collaborating on their understanding of the note values. Phase 4: The students will be handed out a small quiz with questions such as; How many whole notes in one measure? How many half notes are in one whole note? How many quarter notes are in one half note? How many quarter notes are in one whole note?

5. Closing Activity: The teacher will break the students up into groups of four. They will be asked to clap rhythms that will be pointed to at random on the white board. Once the entire group is successful in clapping all three rhythms, they will be allowed to eat the Kit Kat bar. 6. Assessment of student learning: After the students have completed the closing activity they will be asked to take a small quiz with questions such as; How many whole notes in one measure? How many half notes are in one whole note? How many quarter notes are in one half note? How many quarter notes are in one whole note?...
