Uses

Enoxaparin is used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Enoxaparin is used to prevent blood vessel complications in people with certain types of angina (chest pain) or heart attacks. DVT clots can lead to clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism)

Nursing Interventions  Before beginning therapy, observe for and assess conditions that may be contraindications or cautious use  GI lesions, peptic ulcer disease  Bleeding disorders  Perform lab test as needed  Cardiac, renal and liver function  CBC  Platelet count



Expected Outcomes Side Effects

Enoxaparin can cause very serious blood clots around the spinal cord. if patient has undergone a spinal tap or received spinal anesthesia (epidural), Or if patient is using other drugs that can affect blood clotting, such as blood thinners or NSAIDS. This type of blood clot can lead to long-term or permanent paralysis. Other side effects include:  Bleeding gums  Coughing up blood  difficulty with breathing or swallowing  Dizziness  Headache

Enoxaparin is injected under the skin, or as an infusion into a vein. Teach patient how to properly use the medication and administer. Take Enoxaparin exactly as directed on the prescription or package label. Don’t take more Enoxaparin or take it more often than directed. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not know how much medication to take or how often to take your medication Don’t continue taking Enoxaparin if the above side effect occurs and contact your family doctor or local pharmacist immediately
