Description

Response 2 Hi Stacia, I enjoyed reading your SOAP note on case study three and agree with your diagnosis of bacterial pneumonia but would consider Tuberculosis as well. Huether and McCance (2017) state that pneumonia patient’s present with complaints of fever, shaking, chills, cough, labored breathing, and can be confirmed with chest X-ray. The patient with bacterial pneumonia should consider vaccination with Prevnar 13 and pneumovax as well as frequent hand-washing, smoking cessation, exercising, increasing fluids, and eating a nutritious diet. Symptoms of TB depend on where the bacteria is growing, but usually the pulmonary system (lungs) are affected. Symptoms include a bad cough, chest pain, coughing up sputum or blood, fatigue, weight loss, decreased appetite, fever, and night sweats (Huether & McCance, 2017). The alternate diagnoses you provided of acute bronchitis, asthma, and COPD are all important to eliminate, and although I like your diagnosis of bacterial pneumonia, I would investigate and rule out Tuberculosis. Cash and Glass (2017) state that tuberculosis exhibits similar symptoms as mentioned above, but anorexia was not documented. Testing may include a bronchoscopy to obtain specimens, and a chest X-ray.
