Overview learning objectives

My target for this lesson

 

Knowledge of -URE and -EAR and -ER sounds. Prior experience of tricky words

To recognise the -AIR sound and be able to write and say words that contain the sound.

Lesson organisation & management   

  

Play quick write words using the high frequency words – no, go, to and I, etc. Use flash cards to test children on sounds learnt previously.4 Teach ‘air’ using phonics scheme. Remind children that a trigraph is three letters that make one sound. Demonstrate this in a phoneme frame with mini whiteboards. ‘Air’ action is brushing hair. Segmenting for spelling: Phoneme frame: air, hair, fair, pair. Blending for reading – sound buttons and lines: air, hair, fair, pair. Reading captions activity – She has big hair. Get children to read the sentence and then draw a picture of it.

Be confident and enthusiastic and enjoy it!

Health and Safety Assessment Less confident Confident More confident

Lesson evaluation  Assessment - If the children can independently complete the activities on their white boards, then I know they have taken some information in. Some children will struggle more so it might be necessary to add the sound to their ‘fluffy word’ boxes, or to support them and ask them individually.  

The objectives were achieved, children managed to recognise, write, and segment words containing the -air sound. The more confident children were able to write the words really quickly and some were more keen than others to contribute.

I was able to convey the objective of the lesson, although I felt I was quite and not as enthusiastic as I could have been.

Be more confident in myself.

I need to ensure things are more planned and structured towards the end of the lesson.

I need to use positive reinforcement to highlight negative behaviour....
