DETAILED BREAKDOWN OF THE MARKING SCHEME Below are the detailed points that the assessors will be reviewing for each section of the report:
Title (4 marks): • Accurately present or describe the experiment (including species) and the major findings? • Is the title logical? • Conform to the character limit of 150 characters including spaces?
Abstract (8 marks): • Accurately describe and summarise the study, including brief sections on the : • Introduction and rationale for the study • Brief methods including the procedures and measurements • The major findings of this study • Conclusion Introduction (22 marks): • Clearly indicate the relevance of this study to society? What are the societal benefits? • Provide sufficient background on the effect of exercise on the cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic physiological systems? • Does the information convey accurate and in depth knowledge of physiological understanding of the effect of exercise? • Are the points raised relevant to the study? • Is there excessive detail provided? I.e. did the student provide information and detail that is beyond the scope of the proposed experiments? • Provide background of the relevance and importance of music • The rationale for studying the effect of music is clearly identified / explained. • Did the introduction outline / justify the experiments conducted - including the examination of the effect of music and the comparison between the different types of exercises? • Clearly identified the novel / new / controversial (whichever is relevant) aspects of this study. • What makes this study different or unique to what is currently known? • The hypotheses are clear and contain all the requirements of a good hypothesis. (min. = 2 for the 2 main research questions) • The background information provided are relevant and the information are accurately cited.

Methods (9 marks): • The subject selection and subject data clearly presented. • Sufficient detail of the procedures provided to allow the experiment to be reproduced. • Is the procedures clear and logically presented? OR • Is there excessive and unnecessary detail? • The measurements taken are clearly stated and equations for the major calculations are provided. • Detail of all the statistical analyses and data presentation are provided.
Results (14 marks): • All the graphs and data are clearly and accurately presented. • Figure legends are included for all figures and contain the required content. • The descriptions of the results are accurate and complete. All results are presented and described. • The writing is concise and accurate, and logical. • The description integrate different aspects of the results in a cohesive manner.
Discussion (33 marks): • Provide a clear summary of the major findings in the study. • Addresses the hypotheses established in the introduction. • Addresses the purpose of the study. • Explain and discuss the relevant mechanisms for the observed changes in physiological parameters in the major findings, including comparison between the treatment groups. • Adequately explains the changes observed in the cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic systems. • Supported by appropriate / relevant previous literature. • Clearly integrates the concepts in physiology with the data presented in current literature • Identify the new and novel aspects of the study, including the effect of music on the parameters. • Puts the current experiment in context of the existing studies, by clearly integrating and comparing the results of the current study with the published literature.

• Identify at least 2 limitations and / or suggestions for potential improvements on the experimental design for future studies. Provide rationale for how the limitations affected the validity of the conclusions, OR how the improves will increase the scientific value of the study • Literature is referenced appropriately.
Logical presentation of ideas and clarity of expression (10 marks): Throughout all parts of the report: • The writing expression is clear and concise. • The organisation and flow of ideas is logical. • This quality of the writing is consistent throughout the assignment
Marks deducted: Marks are deducted for the following as this indicates inability to follow instructions: • Over the word limit in specified sections (Title, Abstract, Introduction + Discussion). Upto 10% may be deducted from each section. • Incorrect reference format. • Incorrect sequence of sections in the document
