Research Proposal: 1. Background Hans Grossman, Natural Fare supermarket’s owner, is considering changing the store’s old shopping carts. Mr. Grossman has read information about smart shopping carts with touch screens that guides the shopper through the store. Among the features of these smart carts, customers can send a shopping lists, notice products and promotions. Also, customers can order from the deli or bakery. Mr. Grossman thinks these smart shopping carts might work for his supermarket because most of his clients are professionals that do not like to spend too much time in the grocery store. 2. Statement of the problem The focus of the study will be to determine the viability of the replacement of the old grocery shopping carts for smart shopping carts instead of regular new grocery shopping carts. 3. Purpose of the study The purpose of the study is to give Natural Fare supermarket’s owner, results that enables him to decide if he should buy smart shopping carts or regular shopping carts. 4. Scope of analysis The factors that will be analyzed are:  If the smart shopping carts enhance the experience of customers in the grocery store.  The effect in sales that smart shopping carts have. 5. Definitions Smart shopping carts are an innovative product that retail stores are implementing to help shoppers fast-track their shopping experience. They have a digital screen and has all the information of the products that the customers put in the cart giving them the bill without going to the cashier. The term regular shopping carts refers to the carts that every customer can find in every retail store that its only function is to collect the items that the customers removes from the shelves of the store. 6. Data collection The data will be collected by secondary sources that reviews the experience of retail stores that already implement the new smart carts.
