For this discussion thread, I'm looking for two things based on Sam Capasso's lecture: (1) In your own words, how does sea level rise impact communities from an EJ perspective? (2) What was something interesting you learned from the lecture that you didn't know before? The rise of sea level negatively impacts poorer communities. Areas that are in danger of being effected by sea level are required to have insurance, which either can prevents folk of certain financial status from living there, or create a situation where people are struggling to stay afloat financially. Even though it was basic, I didn’t know anything about FEMA and what the process was for declaring a major disaster before the lecture. For example, I had no clue that the governor of the state has to write a letter requesting funds in order for FEMA to act.
