Ascending aorta: originates from aortic orifice (sup. part of ventricle); 2.5cm diameter; only branches are R & L coronary arteries (supply blood to heart) Aortic arch travels superiorly (above pulm. vessels) and post. & left (behind L. pulmonary vessels & L. bronchus, L. of oesopahagus), then inf. (as desc. aorta)

Internal Thoracic Artery is the only one that arises inferiorly from the subclavian artery. It passes into the thorax and supplies the thoracic wall Thyrocervical trunk arises anterosuperiorly from subcl. artery; divides into branches that supply muscles & viscera of neck Costocervical trunk arises from post. aspect of subcl. artery; post. to scalenes; supplies post. deep cervical muscles

Lingual artery supplies tongue & floor of mouth; associated w/ salivary glands; deep lingual on bottom of tongue (deep), sublingual under tongue (salivary glands) Facial artery is convoluted; it curves around inf. border of mandible, ant. to masseter muscle. It supplies the facial muscles and lips (labia) Palatine tonsillectomy involves dissecting & removing tonsil from tonsillar bed. Bleeding can occur as a post-operative complication Asc. pharyngeal a. supplies constrictor muscles of pharynx, middle ear & cranial meninges. It enters the skull via hypogossal canal & jugular foramen into the brain Occipital a. arises from pos. aspect of ext. carotid artery; supplies back of skull Post. auricular a. arises from post. aspect of ext carotid a.; supplies ear, neck muscles & parotid salivary gland Terminal arteries are the end of an artery and have no other anastomose artery to help it Superficial temporal a. begins in parotid gland behind neck of mandible; supplies parotid gland, masseter & temporal (side) of scalp (cheek) Maxillary a. passes medial to mandibular neck & inf. to eye, superficial to lateral pterygoid muscle to pterygopalatine fossa Maxillary a. has three regions: 1) Mandibular, 2) Pterygoid, 3) Pterygopalatine Teeth sit in air pocket in mandible (hence the name inferior alveolar artery)...
