Response Paper 1 Assignment
Professor Pochtar...
RESPONSE PAPER 1 ASSIGNMENT Instructions Steinberg notes that portrayals of adolescents in the mass media tend to be stereotypical, sensationalized and negative. For this paper, we ask that you find a TV/movie clip that portrays adolescents in this negative way and another that portrays adolescents in a contrasting positive light. Briefly summarize the clips and then analyze which you think is more accurate, and in what ways. In assessing this, please consider to what extent each of the portrayals is backed up by data about typical adolescent development and behavior.
Please note that this paper is NOT a summary of the clips. Rather, this is an assessment of the clips in light of the information you have been provided about adolescent development and behavior thus far. To best answer this question, you will need to utilize readings and class lectures from sessions 1-7
Grading Criteria Your paper should be 3-4, double-spaced pages, written in Times New Roman 12pt font. Please submit an electronic version of your paper to NYU Classes by 9:30am on the date due. Papers should be submitted as a word document or PDF format only. We will not accept printed hard copies of your paper.
All citations must follow APA style, unless you are using direct quotes or information from lectures (in which case you can simply note the teacher and date of class). All papers must include a Works Cited Page, in APA format.
Your papers will be graded on both the content of what you say and the manner in which you express yourself. In the field of mental health, communication between practitioners, patients, and families is of the utmost importance, so we are expecting you to strive for clarity in your written work. Incomplete thoughts and frequent syntactical and grammatical errors (e.g., run-on sentences, fragments, reference errors, etc.) interfere with our ability to understand your ideas
and analysis (which in practice can have serious consequences for an individual receiving treatment) and will, consequently, result in a lowering of your grade....
