FINALS: HISTORY 12- A Exercise 1: Dr. Jose P. Rizal: A Fully Functioning Person? Specific Objectives: At the end of this exercise, the students should be able to: 1. define and understand the terms “fully functioning person” and “healthy personality”; 2. Recognize the characteristics of a fully functioning person and a healthy personality; 3. compare Dr. Jose Rizal’s characteristics with the characteristics of a fully functioning person; 4. determine if Dr. Jose Rizal had a healthy personality which enabled him to become a National hero; 5. determine if they have a healthy personality that will enable them to become ideal Filipino citizens-socially concerned, productive, morally upright, patriot like Dr. Jose Rizal and; 6. discover the beneficial effects of having a citizenry that possesses a healthy personality.

Activity: Follow the instructions ad write your answers in the space provided. 1. Research and define the term “fully functioning person” and “healthy personality”.  Fully Functioning is a person with a healthy personality, who experiences freedom of choice and action, is creative, and exhibits the qualities of existential living. [ as defined in the client-centered therapy of Carl Rogers].  Healthy personality can be characterized by the following traits: capable to experience and express emotions, confident in their own abilities, emotionally stable and resilient to stress.

2. Enumerate and explain the characteristics of a fully functioning person.  Openness to experience- to seek out new experiences, be comfortable with the unfamiliar, and engage in introspection than those who are lower on the trait.

 Pro-active- controlling a situation before it happens rather than responding to it after it has happened.  The ability to interpret experiences accurately.  A flexible self-concept and the ability to change through experience.  The ability to trust one's experiences and form values based on those experiences  Unconditional self-regard- a person that is able to maintains a positive self-view.  Does not feel the need to distort or deny experiences.  Open to feedback and willing to make realistic changes.  Lives in harmony with other people. 3. Compare a person with a healthy personality and a person with an unhealthy personality.  A healthy personality has a positive outlook on life, has a sense of humor, thinks about the nice things that can be done for you while an unhealthy personality takes credit for things that they didn’t do. They are a bit dishonest about things for their own gain without taking other people in consideration. 4. Review the pictures in a newspaper/magazine; choose a picture which could symbolize a healthy functioning of an individual with a healthy personality. Cut and paste the picture on the page provided and explain why you chose it.

 A healthy functioning of an individual with a healthy personality is a person whose characteristics like a child that is happy inside out they can express their emotion honestly, confident in their own abilities, emotionally stable. For the reason that they do not stress their selves with negativities.

5. Compare Rizal’s characteristics with the characteristics of a fully functioning person. Did he have a healthy personality? Explain and support your answers with specific examples.  Dr. Jose Rizal has a healthy personality, because he thinks about the best things that can be done and even sacrifices his life for the sake of our country and his fellow countrymen. An example is that Jose Rizal had excelled in many fields like in medicine, literature, science, agriculture and engineering. He was executed in Bagumbayan fighting for reform for us Filipinos through his writing the novels “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo”. He had helped a lot of people especially when he was exiled Dapitan. Those who have illness and the residents in Dapitan, in agriculture, and aquaculture he even teaches students. 6. Compare your personality characteristics with the characteristics of a fully functioning person. Do you have all the characteristics of a person with a healthy personality? If your answer is no, what do you intend to do about it?  I do not represent all the characteristics of a fully functioning person because of the fact that there are times that I tended to situation without thinking in the event that it is advantageous for me or destructive. Aside from that, I likewise abstain myself from applying endeavors. And this made me realized that I need to change my personality by blending myself with positive people who encourage me to excel. I also watch motivational videos for a betterment of myself.

7. What are the beneficial effects if majority of Filipino citizens will be able to develop a healthy personality?  If majority of Filipino citizens will be able to develop a healthy personality, there will be no children being abused, each one of us will not have a suicidal tendency because we always see the light rather than darkness. Filipino can live harmoniously and peacefully.
