Pacelli 1 Laura Pacelli Dr. Werner EN-384 6 May 2019 The Next Five Years and Beyond Being an indecisive person, there has to be a lot of careful consideration in what or who I am suppose to be as a professional working adult. In the book Roadmap: The Get-It-Together Guide for Figuring Out What to Do with Your Life by Roadtrip Nation I was introduced to stories and strategies to find myself. This book is something that had helped me to organize my ambitions and passions in order to help me configure my own roadmap. Through this journey of self-awareness I have come up with a five year plan for myself that is both what I want now and is subject to change as I grow. I have a strong interests in spreading love and acceptance in anything I do as well as a love for literature, writing and traveling. Therefore, I was able to bounce of of my strengths, experiences and passions in order to create this roadmap. The noise is a concept I learned about in this process. Noise can be defined as, “ The whirling cacophony of voices, advice, and expectations that drowns out our individual expression” (Roadtrip Nation 39). Personally, for me, the noise is my parents. I know that of course, they mean well, but they definitely have expectations for me that stem from what they did not do with their own lives. My mom comes from a family where all the women were teachers, my mom never became a teacher, rather she was just a teacher’s assistant. Since I was little she put in my head that I should be a teacher because I have that gift of working well with others, and especially being good with young children. My dad actually rather disagrees with my mom, saying that I would make no money as a teacher. He would always say that I can argue my

Pacelli 2 way out of everything. From a young age, I baffled him with proposals to get out of chores, as well as loopholes out of punishments. He says that I should major in English, because I am good at it and love it, and then go to Law School after. I had to block out these noises because I came to the realization that neither of those paths are for me. I decided to venture out of the idea of being a teacher and away from the high intensity world of being a lawyer. Those are just not atmosphere I saw on my roadmap and could see myself entering, and figuring that out was very crucial for my roadmap. Thus, by examining what I want compared to what I do not what I will help me to continue to write and edit my roadmap. There is nothing I want do more with my life then inspire others to spread love and acceptance. Although, teachers and lawyers can have the ability to do that, I do not want to

Therefore, I was able to bounce off of knowing my what my passions are and are not in order to create this roadmap. There is nothing I want to do more with my life then inspire others to spread love and acceptance. Although, teachers and lawyers can have the ability to do that, I do not want to go that route because of my love for writing needs play a more of an active and creative role in my career. This semester I had an experience that opened my mind to a possible career for me. When I went to volunteer at Lunch Break for my shadowing project, I was assigned to the Public Relations Specialist. Lunch Break, being a wonderful non-profit organization, they do great things to help the public in need. The Public Relations specialist whom I met, Melia Owens, told me how she helps lunch break become more know so that they can continue to do what they do. I went to this event where prom dresses were being donated and helped by interacting with the clients and photographing them. The footage I got was sent to local newspapers and uploaded on Social Media sites to spread awareness and promote Lunch Break’s work. I enjoyed this because I also found out that in order to get the word out good writers are needed to promote the public to join. This kind of writing is something I could see myself doing. I can take English Major

This will be rewarding for me because I can help people, stand for good ideals, and write. Now, the question is how I will get to become something in public relations. Next year, I will be able to declare a minor in Public Relations at Monmouth University. The minor consists of six classes that all in ways spark my interest. More specifically, next semester I will be taking the class Introduction to Public Relations and Writing for Public Relations. The following semester I am signed up to take a class called Social Media in Public Relations and this class sounds very cool. The last three I will plan to take my Senior Year if I choose to continue the minor. These will be Fundraising for Public Relations, Campaigning in Public Relation, and a class called Layout and Design. I plant to learn the knowledge in these classes that will help me make a career for myself. On top of all this, I will be finishing my Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. This will help me to strengthen my skills in both reading and writing in order to aid me in the foundation of creativity I would need in the future. The summer after my junior year I hope to find an internship, or even get work experience in this field. This could also help feed my desire to travel because I never know where I might get an internship, and I will be open to going almost anywhere. This internship I seek will help me have more experience for when I graduate and look for employment. Add Drip Chart (Roadmap Nation 210). Therefore, this new interest I gained this year in pursuing a minor in Public relations can be critical for my roadmap because it allows me to combine my strengths, my experiences, and my passions. There is always the question of what if I take the Public Relations courses and realize this not for me. Add Failure Chart Failure is something that is discussed in the book Roadmap. There

Pacelli 6 will be many failures that I might come across on my journey, that is what it is always subject to change. Failure should be looked at as motivation for improving as well as inspiration to find what’s right and what works. Therefore, I have a backup plan based off of my other experiences with Lunch Break. I was given the task to interview people and groups and
