Description

After reading Elder Bednar's talk, what do you need to do as part of this course?

I need to seek learning by Faith, and this means that I need to allow what I am taught in this class by my instructor to come into my heart by the power of the spirit and by my faith. The instructor will teach me by faith, and I should learn by Faith by acting upon what I am being taught. By preparing for class and doing my homework and assignments. 

How does his discussion on "assurance, action, and evidence" apply to this course?

My hope is to pass this class with a good grade by the end of this semester. I act on my desired outcome to get a good grade by doing the work that is required of me with a good Faith effort. The evidence of my action will be the results I will get after every graded assignment or paper. 

What are some specific examples, from this course’s structure, about "to act and not be acted upon"?

The course structured in such a way that we are just taught what we will need to help ourselves get to the answers. The instructor will not give us the questions and the answers, He will give us ways to get to the answers. Through this approach we are acting for ourselves and not being acted upon. Acting for ourselves help us exercise our own muscles and we learn and gain knowledge verse when we are acted upon. Elder Bednar states, "Learning by faith cannot be transferred from an instructor to a student through a lecture, a demonstration, or an experiential exercise; rather, a student must exercise faith and act in order to obtain the knowledge for himself or herself." How does this statement inform us about this course? That we will not be spoon fed in this course, instead we will be given shovels so we can use what we have been given to learn for ourselves. We are being taught to fish, so we feed ourselves and not being fed. This will help us learn for ourselves and gain knowledge....
