Organisational Diagonosis: Analysing, gather and interpreting information and how the organisation is functioning. Diagnosis is a coordinated process between an organisation and consultants. Main Steps: - Selecting a conceptual model for diagnosis - Clarifying information requirements - Gathering Information - analysis - interpretation Diagnostic Models focus attention on: A limited number of key elements the way these elements interact with each other the outputs produced by these interactions We use models to guide the information that we attend to, how to interpret that information and help us decide how to act. Component Models
One approach to diagnosis is choosing a component model to asses and paint a picture of how the organisation is functioning as a whole. Open Systems theory: Has low credibility due to not much empirical evidence of its success, is like a law of change suggesting that changes made to one element will reflect on others. Long term effectiveness is determined by an organisation's ability to change and adapt to change in ways that help the organisation prosper internally and externally.
