Description

Mental Health Case: Sharon Cole Guided Reflection Questions Opening Questions How did the simulated experience of Sharon Cole’s case make you feel? -I felt actually a little unpreared for this vsim. I felt distracted and would get scattered talking with the patient. Talk about what went well in the scenario. -Though she had scattered answers to my questions, she was very responsive and accepting to let me take her vitals and administer her medication. She was also cooperative with her assessments. Reflecting on Sharon Cole’s case, were there any actions you would do differently? If so, what were these actions and why? -I realized that I needed to dim the lights, to create a less distracting environment for the patient. I would’ve done it in the beginning to hopefully her calm the patient earlier in the scenario. Scenario Analysis Questions* PCC What issues have you identified that could be barriers to a successful treatment for Sharon Cole? -Her erratic and delusional thoughts and mania may interfere with her medication adherence. And her manic thoughts and actions could possibly lead to self harm. How would you address the manic state? -I would speak in a low tone, maintaining a low emotion to aoid adding to her heightened emotional state. I would attempt to reorient her and shift a focus as to what needs to be assessed. PCC/I Identify a support group that would be beneficial to Sharon Cole’s husband. -The Depression and Bipolar Supprt Alliance could be beneficial to her husband. PCC/S What action should be initiated due to Sandra Cole’s medication regimen? -It is critical to educate Sandra and her husband about the importance of medication adherence assuming her husband is allowed to be inolved. The nurse needs to come up with a plan with Sandra and her husband, if he’s involved, to ensure medication adherence. This all needs to be done when she is not manic.
