Please type your answers below each question. 1. Read the section on The Kingdom of God in Chapter 10 of the textbook and respond to the following: a. Is it a present kingdom or a future kingdom? -

A present kingdom as seen in the verse Mark 1:15 which says, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel

b. Is it a physical kingdom or a spiritual kingdom? -

A spiritual kingdom. Indeed, Jesus did come to set people free and to usher them into his kingdom, but his kingdom did not look like what they expected. Rather than freeing people from Rome, he freed people from sin.

c. List two other characteristics found in the reading. - People thought his kingdom was freedom from Rome, but it was freedom from sin - Not a place, but the fact that God rules

2. Read the section on The Mission of God (missio Dei) in Chapter 10 of the textbook and respond to the following: a. How is it related to God's character? -

The mission of God is to restore a world broken by sin which flows out of His character. Out of His character of love, God sent Himself out into

the world. The theological point that mission is an attribute of God is called mission Dei, which means "mission or sending of God."

b. How is God's mission characterized? -

God's mission is characterized by sending, and its corollary, serving.

3. Read the sidebar on Finding Your Purpose in Chapter 10 of the textbook and describe the work ethic presented. What kind of work is best? -

The place where God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet. In other words, the work that you enjoy doing and the work that the world most needs to have done is the best work you can do.

4. List God's purposes for our lives from Romans 8:28-29 (see Topic 7 Overview). - Love God - Be conformed to the image of Christ

5. Read the section on Belief and Behavior in Chapter 11 of the textbook and James 2:14-26. What is the relationship between faith and action? -

For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

6. According to Mark 8:34, is being a disciple of Jesus easy or costly? -

Costly - "take up his cross"

7. Read the section on The Work of the Holy Spirit in Chapter 11 of the textbook. List two functions of the Spirit in a Christian's life.
