Math Tutoring – C108

Math tutoring in the K.E.Y. provides Ivy Tech students with a supportive learning community in an environment staffed by peer tutors who are selected for their excellent performance in math classes; students receive individualized assistance for classes across the math curriculum, including the STEM pathway (MATH 023, 043, 135, 136, 137) and the Quantitative Reasoning pathway (MATH 080, MATH 123). Math tutors are also available to assist with calculus, Foundation classes, and Tech MATH 122. 

Writing & Research Tutoring – C108

Beyond the essential practices of frequent reading and writing that are built into college classes, Ivy Tech believes one-on-one discussion of writing and research with another individual is a necessary element of college education. In addition to working with instructors in classes, Ivy Tech students have the opportunity to discuss their writing in the K.E.Y Learning Center, where staff members who specialize in English skills will be able to offer excellent personalized instruction and dialogue regarding the development and refinement of writing and research assignments across the Ivy Tech curriculum. 

Additional Tutoring Across the Curriculum – C108

Tutoring is also available for other classes across the curriculum each semester. If you desire an individual appointment or have questions about additional services in the K.E.Y., please contact Darla Crist at [email protected] or at 812-298-2563 LIBRARY SERVICES – C-116 The campus location of the library (Room C116) has laptops, comfortable seating, tables, and access to charging stations for laptops, tablets, and phones; study rooms are also 8

available for use. You can also schedule an appointment for individual assistance in using research resources in print or online. The Ivy Tech Virtual Library is available to students on and off campus. (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) – C-116 Ivy Tech also provides supplemental instruction to support learning in classes such as Accounting, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, and Chemistry. P.A.S.S. study sessions led by SI peer tutors are held in the Library at designated times during the semester. SI peer tutors are also embedded in the classroom for the subjects they are tutoring. For more information, please contact Lisa Jeffers at [email protected] or at 812-2982315. Tips for a Successful Tutoring Session The tutors in the K.E.Y. Learning Center are students who were selected as a result of their excellent performance in Ivy Tech courses. Their primary role is to mentor other students in the academic skills necessary for college success. Please be aware that tutors are not available to merely provide the correct answer to a question or problem. Instead, tutors will listen to your questions and help you to arrive at answers on your own. At other times, tutors will ask you questions about your work in order to assess your approach to the material and to help you to better understand it. To get the most out of your tutoring sessions, here are a few tips:  

Start early; get to know the K.E.Y. tutoring staff at the beginning of the semester, so you have established yourself as part of a campus learning community. Come organized and prepared; bring your notes, questions, textbook(s), or online access codes in order to provide the tutor a full picture of the course and your concerns. Be prepared to log in using your student ID or C0# each time you visit the K.E.Y. Learning Center or use services in the Library, such as laptops. Plan ahead; arriving for tutoring at the last minute before homework or projects are due increases your stress level and does not allow you to actually learn from your tutoring session. In addition, if time is short and an assignment is complex, there is only so much a tutor can do to assist you. Overall, take responsibility for your work and for your success. Be proactive, not reactive when it comes to any difficulty you are experiencing in your classes. Don’t wait until midterm to seek help from your instructor or the tutors. We are all here to help you unlock your potential!
