MOTIVACIÓN Y CAUSA: after 2WW situation. to raise awareness among Americans about the war and the despotism (tirany) PROPÓSITO: Make them aware about the growth of communism in order to join democratic governments of Britain and US SIGNIFICACIÓN: shows the tension between US and URSS (Soviet Union) PROYECCIÓN: although Britain, US, Soviet Union were allies during 2WW, their relationship was fragile CONSECUENCIA: Stalin accused him of turning Europe countries againts Soviet Union. Affected their relationship  lead to Cold War CHARACTERISTICS: o Metaphor: “Iron curtain” = separation of the world into communists and democratics  Curtain = keep people in + information out

CLASIFICACIÓN DEL TEXTO: historical document CONTEXTUALIZACIÓN: a week before its publication in “The Times” newspaper. Ireland was suffering the Potato famine, mostly due to the bad administration and policy of the British government. Although Ireland is a fertile land, irish people were displaced by English people to non-fertile lands. Potato indispensable to survive, although there was a potato disease. They lived in poor conditions. There was religious persecution. Due to all this, Irish people wanted independence. British government’s measures were not enough.
