Description

"The Selfish Giant" was the fairy tale I chose. The term piqued my interest, and I was curious as to why the giant was so self-centered. Children enjoyed playing in the giant's lovely garden, but when he returns home after seven years abroad, he doesn't want to see children playing in his private garden. To keep the youngsters out, he constructs a wall around the garden and posts a notice that says "trespassers will be punished." When spring arrived, the children found a new place to play, but the selfish giant garden remained under the winter spell. The giant sees how selfish he has been with the children and allows them to play in his garden once more. One boy is helped by the egotistical giant. With a kiss, the boy repays the goodness. Years pass, and the selfish giant no longer sees the small guy. When the giant sees the boy in the garden one day, he greets him warmly. However, he discovers that the boy's hands and feet have been injured by nails. The youngster assures the giant that the wounds are love wounds and that he should not be scared. Because the giant allowed him to play in his garden, the youngster informs the big that he will take him to his garden, which is heaven. When the other kids arrive in the Giant's Garden to play, they discover that the giant has passed away. The fairy story appeals to me. When we first started ,I anticipated it to be similar to the story of Johnny and the Bean Stalk, but it took a surprising turn in the middle of the story and ended unexpectedly. I thought this book might be made into a Disney film since it was charming, had a nice message, was engaging, and had a lovely ending. I also notice some parallels with various biblical chapters....
