Reflection on Kobe Bryant's poem....
Paige Nelson Ms. Gustafson English ll Honors, Period 6 3 February 2020 My Thoughts on “Dear Basketball Poem” This poem is very intriguing and gives a deep insight into Kobe Bryant’s thoughts and feelings about his first love. It is inspiring to me because it portrays the message that if you love something, you have to pour your heart, soul, and mind into to achieve it. He gave his all to get where he got to. This also makes me think of myself, and how it relates to the article of “What Are You Willing to Struggle For?”. The article leads you to self-analyze and think about if you are willing to endure the hardships to pursue what you love. The line that sticks out to me more substantially than the others is the line that states, “I did everything for YOU”. This line is significant because he is like speaking to not only basketball, but the environment, the community, and the experience that the sport gave him. The “you” emphasizes his perspective because he isn’t necessarily speaking directly to the sport and doesn’t specify it as entirely just basketball, but the life that came along with it. From this poem, Kobe is bringing across the message that he wants to be remembered as someone who gave something he loved his all and he only ended his career because his body could not handle it any longer, even when his heart said otherwise. Kobe Bryant wrote this poem as a way of goodbye to his first love, but he will never forget where the sport brought him and the positive ways it has impacted him throughout his life....
