Description

Christin Papeleras 1PGEED10033 Readings in Philippine History Unit 2 Activity After reading the Acta de la Proclamacion de la Independencia del Pueblo Filipino, do this activity by answering the following questions. A. SOURCING THE DOCUMENT QUESTIONS

RESPONSES

1. Is the document/source a primary source? Why?

Yes, because it was the direct evidence or declaration of Philippine independence. It was Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista who cited by/drafted the document and read it on the day of the Declaration of Philippine Independence. Furthermore, at the time of writing, the document was signed by dignitaries and witnesses.

2. Do you think the author is credible as far as the document is concerned? Why?

Yes. Ambrosio Bautista graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Law. He is also an officer of the La Liga Filipina and once a contributor to the patriotic newspaper La Independencia during the Philippine Revolution. The document had become one of our history's most valuable sources of information. The author wrote this based on what he knew and saw at the time.

3. For whom do you think the document was intended? Why do you think it was written?

I think the document was intended not just for Filipinos but as well as for the whole world. The document was written to inform and show the whole world the declaration of independence of Filipinos from the Spaniards. To present that the Philippines is finally free and independent from the colonization and slavery of the Spaniards.

B. COMPREHENSION

4. What are the author’s main arguments?

The author's major point was to declare the Philippines' sovereignty and independence from Spanish colonial control. In addition, the declaration means to motivate people to fight more keenly against the Spaniards while also persuading foreign governments to acknowledge the country's independence. Because all men are created equal, everyone should have equal access to their inalienable rights.

5. Give an example of historical fact (absolutely indisputable) that we learn from this document.

Probably when it took us three centuries to finally freed from the Spaniards’ slavery and also the fact that the colors from our flag were derive from United States.

6. What do you think are some pieces of information that should have not been included in the document? Why do you think so?

I don't believe any information should be removed because all of the details in the document are important in portraying our country’s history before we gained independence. We may not know all the happenings in the past but through this, we can have a glimpse of the historical situation that happened in our country.

C. INTERPRETATION

7. Does the evidence in this document offer any information that you didn't know before? What is this information?

Yes. The following are facts about the Declaration of Philippine Independence that I didn't know before: the one who wrote it; that the colors white, red, and blue of our flag were derived from the United States; and that the proclamation was signed by 98 people.

8. Does the evidence support or contradict anything you have learned from a book, textbook or some other sources? What might this be?

I thought it was Emilio Aguinaldo who waved our flag during the Philippines Proclamation of Independence. It turns out it was Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista.

9. What information should you counter check with other sources?

Probably the names of those who promise to defend the Philippines' independence regardless of whether they are present on the day of the proclamation.

10. Does this source broaden or deepen your understanding of its period? How?

Yes, definitely. Knowing what transpired during that time period and the cause for the proclamation from the perspective of a person who was present at that time broadens my knowledge. It clarifies some things which I thought were the real thing before aside from the additional information which I just knew after reading the document....
