UNIV1001 Discussion Assignment Week 3 In this case study, both Reggie and Arnie were guilty of plagiarism. Reggie and Arnie took an article from the internet and by adding their introductions and conclusions, they tried to make some improvements to the article. It was also obvious that the initial essay was noticed on the internet by their professor. Moreover, their work submitted was nearly identical and did not apply to the subject being assigned. So, these two guilty students should have avoided plagiarism. They could’ve avoided plagiarism by using quotations to prove that the text was taken from a second article. Moreover, they could have cited the article using the APA citation technique. According to (Cleary, M., 2017), these are 10 reasons why students plagiarize: 1. They’re lazy. 2. They panic. 3. They lack confidence. 4. They think they’re supposed to reproduce what the experts have said. 5. They have difficulty integrating source material into their own exposition or argument. 6. They don’t understand why people make such a fuss about sources. 7. They are sloppy. 8. They don’t understand that they need to cite facts, figures, and ideas, not just quotations. 9. They are learning 10. They are used to a collaborative model of knowledge production. Personally, in order to avoid plagiarism, I have to stick to the academic integrity of the University of the people during my journey. So, I have to write my assignments using my own words. But of course, I’ll be supporting my thoughts and ideas using other books, articles, journals, etc. Therefore, I’m going to quote any idea I got from others and cite it using the APA citation technique.
