Hi all, Certifications are testaments to a person’s skills and proficiency in certain areas. Certifications assure employers that a candidate has better idea about the job responsibilities if he/she is certified for that specific role. According to techopedia an IT certification is a designation demonstrating a professional's competency in a certain aspect of technology (What Is IT Certification? n.d.). Having valid certifications promote someone’s credibility. Unfortunately, in information technology industry most of the time employers give certifications more priority over education during hiring process. There are many reasons why it’s very important to maintain certifications. Certifications helps the professionals with their personal and professional development. Certification trainings can provide IT professionals new areas to explore while reinforcing the skills their already has. It’s can act as a refresher for them. As an example, a Certified Computer Examiner (CCE) certification remains valid for two calendar years from the date of issuance (CCE Recertification, 2018). Then a CCE certification holder is required to update him/herself to recertified to make sure they are aware of all new systems, tools and ideas to solve their problems. Also, staying up to date on certifications shows a professional’s commitment to the role itself, success and helps ensure permanency in his/her professional career. Certifications also make their path to advancement clearer. The plain truth is that, in general, valid and maintained certifications can help a professional get a pay raise or a promotion. Even if a professional want to move from one company to another company, the first thing all employers will see is his/her experience and then if all their certifications are up to date. In addition, as the technologies get more complex over time, there is the potential that the certification exams will also get more complex and include more areas that maybe did not exists last time they took the exam. The employers will always appoint the candidate who is more updated with recent world and may see the future.

The difference in maintaining certifications vs. not, can be significant with regard to earning potential. According to a recent article published by Forbes Magazine, IT professionals with security related certifications are earning on average $17,000 more per year than the median IT certification salary. In conclusion, keep your skills and knowledge updated that can help you many ways in personal and professional life. Maintaining and developing your skills is very important and it’ll guarantee your career escalation and the only way to valid that you have to maintain your certifications very well otherwise you’ll stay behind in this fast-faced information industry.
