INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION

2

Interdisciplinary Collaboration A well-rounded curriculum is created when collaboration occurs. The various perspectives on each discipline and how they connect to one another, empower educators to connect relevance and interrelationships of disciplines when planning for instruction. Reading about the effectiveness of interdisciplinary collaboration this week, allowed me to understand how the learning theories are identified within the Understanding by Design method. As I answered each question to the revised PowerPoint, I gained a better understanding and obtained new information to add substance to the presentation. Developing a presentation for a professional development is difficult for me when selecting what information to give and which information to omit. As I created this presentation, I started by asking myself what I want the participants to understand by the end of the lesson. As I started designing this presentation, I realized how the Understanding by Design method influenced how I was preparing this presentation, and how I had to think critically about my audience needs. As an educator, we participate in professional development opportunities that varies on the level of effectiveness. Collaborating with my peers provided me with authentic feedback and helped me to understand different perspectives that I may face. Through collaboration, I was able to revise slides that were vague, to ensure that the information being taught was clearly defined for teachers to implement. Collaborating with colleagues increased all of our understanding of content knowledge, and made learning relevant. This process was more time consuming and challenging to me, due to the amount of feedback of my colleagues. I never considered how the Understanding by Design method could be utilized and applied when teaching adults. I am confident that this presentation will be effective for participants.
