Description

Whiddon Week4 18 April 2020 Whiddon is a not for profit organization, that has been providing elderly care services for the past 70 years (Whiddon n.d.) James (2020) explained that the working environment in Whiddon would be different than your usual companies, because Whiddon is a not for profit organization. Therefore, they focus a lot more on adding value back to the society, rather than maximizing their profitability. Whiddon seeks employee that can present themselves, with a high energy level, have good communication skills and good qualification. It is an important skill to have to present yourself, and your organization positively. Because, Whiddon is a service-based company that provides elderly care services, thus presenting positively would enhance their trustworthiness by adding brand loyalty towards Whiddon. Similarly by having a high energy level and good communication skills are key requirements in Whiddon. By being highly energetic, makes people believe that you are motivated to do your jobs, and this shows that you are confident in what you're doing (Julie 2011). Besides, high energy person can influence other people and makes things exciting. Similarly, having good communication skills is essential, as it increases engagement between clients and colleagues while doing so creates a better relationship with them and trust. Lastly, would be having a good qualification. It is obvious that having a good qualification is crucial in a working environment, the employer expects the person they hired to understand all the fundamental skills, that the job required.

When Whiddon employed a new graduate, they would expect that the graduate to know all the fundamental skills, that are required to do the job. Additionally, Whiddon seeks employee to say yes to things (James 2020). By saying yes to things shows, that you are willing to learn and likes to take on new challenges. Thus, this would lead to self-improvement. Furthermore, Whiddon seeks people who have good people skills. Having people skills includes good communication skills, and able to read the environment vibes, and try not to offend people. This, is important because 75% of your job is going to deal with people (James 2020). Moreover, having flexibility is important as well, employees that are willing to step out of their comfort zone means they are going to be more accomplished. Flexible workers are more likely to take on more responsibilities and do different task compared to the worker that are

not, they are the worker that will do whatever that is necessary to get the task completed (Alison 2019). Overall, these are the main skills that Whiddon seeks for a new graduate. Personally. I do think I have some of the requirements that Whiddon is seeking, such as being flexible, saying yes to things. I am a competitive person in nature, therefore I would say yes to challenges, I like to try new problem and try to be good at it. Challenges make things more interesting and motivate me to be good at it. Similarly, I think, I am a flexible person, due to my competitive nature, and I am not afraid of failure. Additionally, I like to find different ways to solve a problem, and overcoming my limitations rather than doing it the same way. An example of me being flexible is during group work, I am open-minded to my team members ideas and adapt to it. Another example is that, I have an eBay shop that I resell camera and other electronics that generate on average 7000dollar revenue per month, and I have to adapt to the market demands, and difficult clients to please them.

On the other hand, I do lack some skills such as being highly energetic and having good communication skills. To improve my energetic level, I would like to set goals that motivate myself more, as this creates more meaning, as explained by Charnita (2018). I have some issues with communication skills, since I am an international student, thus there are some cultural differences. However, to adapt this, I would try to understand the communication style that Australian uses, and learn to listen and focus on listening and asking questions to clarify the information.
