Description

Nasira is having a bit of an issue. She faces the possibility that she may be fired from her job, one that she likes and that she sees a future in. This in itself is a problem because money is very tight for her, living paycheck-to-paycheck. On the other hand, Nasira is having trouble choosing a supplier, as her ethics are at question with her current pool, and she has no time to find new ones. Her current pool consists of an overseas one, Fab-Right, that possibly has unethical labor practices, and the other was an American company, All-Fabric, that had lower quality materials. Both are being accused of ignoring environmental health as well. So, simply put, her job is at stake, and she must choose a supplier against her own ethics. So clearly, Narisa is in quite the complicated situation, as the case study name, “Between A Rock And A Hard Place” implies. She is forced to choose between a fantastic opportunity and her own morals, which is never an easy dilemma to sort through. We should use the critical thinking tool of “analyzation” to look through this case and find the best solutions. There are just many aspects, and we need to analyze them to find which side has more positive aspects in general. One thing we learned is that Narisa’s company, K-9 Dura-Corp, is a company that prioritizes its “Made In America” aspect. Now, this phrase can actually be applied to more than one would think. It is possible for an item to be crafted at 99% completion in a foreign land, and finished in another to be labelled “Made In America.” Fab-Right is an overseas supplier, but because the items would be finished in America, it would still fit the narrative. A problem arises however, when you think about how this might be perceived. Dishonesty might be a controversy that arises from doing such a thing. In this case, I believe it would be better to go with All-Fabric in this instance. Another issue is the environmental impact. From the study, we know that All-Fabric is

not exactly a saint when it comes to the environment, but their reports are all there. Fab-Right is a ghost on this. We do not know what they are doing, and in this instance one may think between two things. One, “ignorance is bliss.” In this one, it is easy to just ignore it and go on with your day because you just don’t know the facts. On the other hand, the exact opposite could be true. Another thing I looked at was the fact that the dog's health could be put as question with AllFabric, as Narisa believes the lower quality material would be a chewing hazard. So looking at all these things, I honestly believe that she should go with Fab-Right. The choice is not easy, because both are absolutely terrible and the best option would be for the upper management to be more flexible, but I digress. The turnover point for me is the fact that AllFabric may cause choking hazards for the dogs, and this is absolutely terrible from both an ethics and a business standpoint. The “Made In America” obsession just is not important at all when we consider things like choking hazards. As for environmental impact, All-Fabric is knowingly terrible, but we do not know about Fab-Right. Taking a plunge into trusting their methods could be a bad idea, but it also could reveal good results. So in the end, I believe Narisa should choose Fab-Right. In the end, she can always find something else down the road, but to preserve her career, I believe this is the right choice. (Word count: 616)...
