My Personal Brand Your personal brand is how you describe yourself as a person. It is how you want other people to see you when you are doing community service projects, volunteer, or helping spread the views of the political party that you support. My personal brand would as a hardworking youth that has a sense of caring and integrity with a sense of witty humor. I am also display a joyous attitude when it comes to helping out the kids at the Boys and Girls Club work through any problems they have, whether it is homework or personal family problems. My sense of caring can be best shown when I am working with the kids at the Boys and Girls club. After volunteering there for almost 3 years and being a Club kid myself, I know some of the problems that will be faced by the kids. I have helped kids learn assignments they are having trouble with in new fun ways. For example, I had a younger club member having trouble with fractions. In this instance, I had a granola bar in my lunch. I used that granola bar to form a hands-on activity that would explain fractions. I looked at the child’s homework and cut the granola into pieces that corresponded with the fractions on the page. After that it was very easy for him to learn it as the fractions were sitting directly in front of him in a form of something that was appealing. Another instance of this same magnitude would be when one of the older students was having a problem with equations. In this instance I used the popular website Khan Academy to pull up tutorial and helped the student break down each equation step by step. My integrity shows through whenever I have to deal with fights between kids or when a kid comes to me in order to talk about any personal problems they are having. I myself have had my fair share of disputes over the little things, such as whose turn it was to play a game or whether or not I lost a game of pool. Dealing with these minor disputes is a part of everyday life when it comes to the younger kids. The kids try to argue whose turn it was to play, what video game they wanted to play, or where they want to be during a certain time even though they are assigned to a certain room. There is one certain kid that I will focus on. A kid around 10 years old that I know asked to talk to me. I could tell it was urgent as he had been acting very strange for a few day prior to that moment. In the moment that we talked he broke down and told me that

his father had been sent to jail and that he was having a hard time dealing with it. I could totally relate to this kid, as I do not even know my father due to his time spent in and out of Prison. I sat him down and told him that everything he was going through would be alright. I explained to him my situation with my father and once he was calmed down, I told him that if he ever needed someone to talk I and the other staff members would be happy to talk him through his problems. My sense of humor is displayed every single day when I arrive at the club. I am always very chipper and greet the kids with a large smile on my face. I am able to volunteer and at the same time have fun with the kids as if I were their age again. I am always cracking jokes, making people laugh, and having fun whenever I am at the club. Throughout my overall six years at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston – Spring Branch, I have always had a joyous time. From the moment I first walked into the club to the current moment when I am volunteering and helping kids work through similar problems I faced in my childhood, I have always had the same joyous, lighthearted personality. That is why I know the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston – Spring Branch will always be a place that I hold dear in my heart and will be a place that I return in order to help them in any time of need....
